Hello! This is gonna be a special blog post for y'all! This past Halloween was oh so special because it was the first one in a long time, where I actually spent a good amount of time making my costume. Instead of going out and buying cheap costumes for way too much money, I thought it'd be way more fun making my own shit and enjoying the DIY factor! There was a lot of crafting involved but it was tons of fun!! This wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the help of Sean. He really helped me a lot and I even helped him with his stuff too! It made me really excited for the next series of Halloweens to follow. I know this is like two weeks late, but oh well. At the end of this post, stick around because I'm going to attach a special video of Sean's show! It was tons of fun and it was awesome seeing all the amazing costumes...I think my favorite of the night had to be the ICEE Bear. It was super creative and hilarious! I wish I had taken more photos and videos! But anyway, on to the tutorial!
Things you will need:
Poster board
Exacto knife
Scissors
Sharpie
Silver spray paint (we almost used the entire can!)
Acrylic paint (yellow, blue, red, silver)
Fabric straps
Wooden dots
Wrapping paper
Newspaper
Hot glue gun
Masking tape
Take a piece of your wrapping paper and fold it in half. Draw half the shield on one side of the folded wrapping paper.
Cut the pattern out.
Open it up, and there is your shield template!
Trace the shield patter on your poster board.
Use your Exacto knife, carefully cut out your shield. My knife was super dull so it took forever!
Here's what your shield should look like.
Take your shield and outline another shield on a new piece of poster board.
Using a pencil, carefully outline the boarder of your shield. Sean totally freehanded this part, and he did an amazing job!
Then using your Exacto knife, cut out your boarder.
This is what it should look like.
This part was kind of tricky for us. Using a wet paper towel, dampen both your poster boards.
Put weights on your shield and carefully mold the shape of a shield. Slightly rounded.
We tried all types of weights, water bottles and flashlights seemed to work best. Leave the weights there till you get the desired shape.

Paint the shield blue.
Using masking tape, tape the edges of your boarder to smooth out the edges.
Spray the wooden dots and the boarder of the shield, silver. After it dries, glue your silver boarder to the blue shield.
I printed out the template for the detailing of the shield. You can find these online!
Cut out the details.
Proceed to paint the shapes using your acrylic paints.
Glue them down using Elmer's glue.
Apply the fabric straps and the wooden dots, using a hot glue gun, and boom. You got yourself a Link shield!
My mom helped me sew a cap and tunic using green fabric and Sean and I put together a sword using cardboard, spray paint and glue.
Here is a video of Summer Vacation as Against Me! :)
Yay! I hope you enjoyed this DIY tutorial! Until next time, ciao bella!
